The St Abbs lifeboat was called out on the afternoon of Thursday, August 13 after a kayaker got into difficulties.
The elderly man, one of a group of three, had capsized and was struggling to get back into his kayak when the alarm was raised at 2.05pm.
The incident occurred in what were described as worsening conditions, in the water behind the harbour wall, feet from the lifeboat station that is due to close at the end of the first week in September.
The volunteer lifeboat crew were quickly on the scene and out to the stricken kayaker, by which point his two companions had managed to pull him back into his boat.
The St Abbs crew stood by until the three kayakers had safely returned to harbour.
This was the fifth callout for the RNLI crew this summer.
