The Ballet Pod and Jane Keenan School of Ballet are presenting their unique performance of the comedy ballet La Fille mal Gardeé at The Maltings on Saturday, November 1.

The widow Simone has decided her daughter Lise will marry the local rich landowner’s simpleton son Alain (local dancer, Daniel Clelland); however, Lise has fallen in love with Colas a poor farmhand. With cockerels, hens, maypole and clog dances; this delightful ballet is a treat for all the family. Former Royal Ballet dancer Richard Slaughter will dance Widow Simone with The Ballet Pod dancers Ann and Michael Wall as Lise and Colas and a cast of over 70 brilliantly costumed young dancers from the Jane Keenan School of Ballet.

The La Fille mal Gardée performances are the culmination of the year long Berwick Ballet Initiative during which The Ballet Pod visited seven first and middle schools in the area, introducing hundreds of young people ballet, made possible by a grant from the Simpson McCreath Trust.
