The committee of Chirnside and District Horticultural Society were delighted with the number and quality of the entries for their annual show on Saturday.
They were also really pleased to see several new exhibitors taking part in all sections and winning prizes and trophies.
The stepping stones made by the Chirnside Primary School pupils were greatly admired by the large crowd gathered for the presentation of trophies by Jasmin Pattenden, an attendant to this year’s Chirnside Gala Queen Gemma Gault.
Judges were C. Hall and M. Mitchell (industrial) and G. Scott and R. Black (flowers and vegetables).
Trophy winners were as follows: Football Cup for most points in flower section - J. Kenny; Ross Robertson Cup for best pot plant - W. Mein; The Brown Cup for best exhibit of roses excluding floribunda - Carolyn Stanbury; Richard Craig Trophy for best three sprays of floribunda roses - Anne Robertson; Norrie Bowl for most points in fruit section - Anne Robertson; Earsman Trophy for most points in vegetables section - Anne Robertson; Thomson Cup for best entry in vegetables excluding collection - D. Hutchison; Patterson Bowl for most points in industrial section - Agnes Anderson; Swan Cup for best exhibit in industrial section - Jean Garden (Empire biscuits); Alice Rose Bowl for most points in handicrafts classes - Alison Paterson.
For members only: Douglas Cup for most points in vegetable classes - Anne Robertson; The Barber Cup for most points in cut flower classes - J. Kenny; Mary Waddell Trophy for most points in industrial classes - Joint winners Pat Thomson and Maureen Anderson.
The Bill Smith Trophy for best kept and cropped garden - Mary Black; Lyall Trophy for best entry in garden containers classes - J. Kenny; Jock Howie Memorial Cup for most points in onion classes - David Hutchison.
