The 2017 Duns Reiver and his Lass were installed into office at a ceremony held in the Market Square on Friday evening.
A large crowd turned out to see Josh Herbert installed as this year’s Reiver and Melissa Redpath installed as Reiver’s Lass. Both were officially sashed by Duns Summer Festival president Doug Redpath
Unfortunately there is no male attendant this year but Right Hand Lass will be Nicolle Burns.
All three were presented with their traditional red and black rosettes by festival committee chairman Ann Lindsay.
Josh said he had thoroughly enjoyed his role as attendant to last year’s Reiver Euan Reed but said it was a great honour to be installed as Reiver. He added: “I am looking forward to representing the town of Duns at the various common ridings and festivals throughout the Borders.
“I can’t wait to carry the town standard and I will endeavour to carry out my duties to the best of my ability and keep up the high standards set by those before me.”
Reiver’s Lass Melissa said it is a tremendous honour to be Reiver’s Lass and that she was looking forward to representing Duns at the other Borders festivals.
The names of the Wynsome Mayde elect and her maydes were also drawn on Friday evening. The 2017 Wynsome Mayde will be Edith Stuart and her maydes of honour will be Ellie Jo Sullivan, Keira Thomson, Ellie Lyons and Amy Walker.
Last year’s Reiver’s Lass Jade Whellans presented Reiver’s Lass Melissa with a bouquet.
The installation was followed by discos for both youngsters and adults in the White Swan Hotel.
On Saturday morning a coffee morning was held in the Duns Parish Church Hall at which the names of the Wynsome Mayde’s Court were announced. The excellent sum of £390.95 was raised and thanks go to all those who contributed in any way.
This year’s Festival will be held from July 2-8 and the Reiver’s colours for 2017 are Royal Blue and Camel.
