A number of rural crimes have been reported in the Borders recently with criminals targeting mainly garages, sheds and outbuildings intent on stealing farm and garden equipment such as chainsaws hedge cutters and other power tools.
Both business and domestic properties have become subject of these crimes. On a number of occasions sheds and outbuildings have found to be left unlocked and insecure making them easier targets for those intent on stealing.
Local Community Inspector Tony Hodges said: “Police Scotland would like to take this opportunity to remind people that taking a few simple steps to check that they have locked their garages, sheds and outbuildings, replaced bulbs in outside lights and even installing a light timer to their interior house lights, can make their property less attractive to the criminal.”
Please report any suspicious activity to Police Scotland by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
