IT may be summer but Borderers are being urged to act now to benefit from expert energy advice from the Scottish Government.

The government’s Home Energy Scotland Hotline is a one-stop shop for advice and support. The Home Energy Scotland hotline aims to help Borderers prepare for the cold weather this winter. By calling the hotline, people will have instant access to independent money-saving energy advice that they can trust. They may also be eligible to have insulation, a new boiler or even a full central heating system installed at no cost.

The move comes at the same time as the £7.5 million Boiler Scrappage Scheme is launched. The additional funding is part of a £65 million budget to tackle fuel poverty in 2012/13. By calling the Hotline, households may be in line to receive £400 towards the cost of replacing an old, inefficient boiler with a new model, which could also cut up to £300 off their annual fuel bills.

The hotline has already assisted over 200,000 people with advice for saving money on heating bills. 12,000 have received vouchers for new boilers and just under 25,000 heating installations have been carried out.

A spokesman said: “Many households are losing money every day by not taking up free insulation offers supported by the Scottish Government. I would urge anyone who has not looked at loft or cavity wall insulation, or those looking to replace their old and inefficient boiler to contact the hotline as soon as possible to access this additional resource.”
