The exact amount of £1145.81 was raised through a variety of activities including non uniform days, coffee mornings and fundraising activities and the charities that the school will be sharing the money between are Face2Face and Spinal injuries Scotland as well as Day Star School in India.
Face2Face is an organisation providing advice, education and 1:1 support on alcohol, drugs and Volatile Substance Abuse for young people aged 11 to 18 years of age throughout the Scottish Borders. They also provide support for parents and families of young people.
Spinal Injuries Scotland is a national voluntary organisation concerned with new and long-term spinal cord injured people, their relatives and friends.
Pupils’ latest success story, which saw the school raise £79.71 in just 15 minutes, was the third year ASDAN group’s event to mark the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning”.
The six pupils in the ASDAN Group are working towards their ASDAN Silver Challenge Award, and with one of their challenges asking them to entertain a group of people to tea or coffee, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning provided them with the perfect opportunity.
The students did all the planning and preparation. After tasting and testing they decided to make tea loaf, Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle cake, and then on Monday, October 3, the group held a very successful Coffee Morning for all staff during morning interval.
They were pleased that staff came to support them and very grateful for their generous donations.
Mrs Thomson, who teaches the group, is very proud of her pupils’ efforts.
Many staff commented on how polite and helpful the students were and all agreed that the standard of baking was fantastic!
