Great support for Duns Reivers Week

SIR, - May I through your column express my sincere thanks to eveyone who has made Reiver’s Week such a success.

It goes without saying that we rely on the support of local people and they did not let us down. Even on Saturday evening’s fancy dress parade, amidst the torrential rain which seemed to go on for ever, you were there to support and cheer everyone on.

The weather had been kind to us for the most part of the week until that time and I appreciate the amount of time and effort everyone made to be part of the fancy dress parade and procession.

Our Reiver Billy, Reiver’s Lass Morag, Attendants Richard and Claire, along with Wynsome Mayde Claire and her maydes Milly, Megan, Emily and Ally, did the town proud and I thank them very much.

Thanks are due to Duns Pipe Band, our ‘all weather band’ who support Reiver’s Week very well indeed. To everyone else, too numerous to mention who have played any part in our festival week, I convey a huge thank you. Without all the help, which does not go unnoticed, a week such as we have celebrated, would not take place.

A personal thank you must go to Ann Affleck, president of Duns Summer Festival, who has supported me during the past three years. Ann has now decided to step down from her position as president and I thank her most sincerely for all her hard work, support and guidance whilst in her position as president.

Many thanks to every single person who has contributed in any way to make our Reiver’s Week 2011 the success it has been. Here’s to Reiver’s Week 2012.

Duns Summer Festival

SIR, - We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to the members of Duns Pipe Band during Reiver’s Week this year.

A huge thank you also has to go to the band’s ‘wagamamas’ that make sure we have a strong turnout time after time and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Without this support the town wouldn’t have a band. We would also like to say thanks to our committee, Ian Lothian, Mary Warren and Tina Robertson for their continual efforts to keep us organised and funded and thanks also to Nella Feeney and her team and the Gavinton Village Hall Committee for looking after us all so well during the week.

Last but not least, and on behalf of all members in the band, thanks to all of you who come and watch us play regardless of the weather.

SIR, I would like to take this opportunity to say what an enjoyable festival week it was in Duns. Well done to the Reiver and Wynsome Mayde’s parties. Thank you to the members of the Duns Ex- Reivers and the Summer Festival Committee for their support throughout the week.

There was an increased number of beds taking part in the Bed Race. Thank you to the publicans of the town, who kindly supplied the competitors with much needed beverages during the race and most of all a sincere thank you to all those who took part.

A very special thank you, to all of those people who generously found the time to decorate the town; helped marshal the Bed Race and the Torchlight Processions. Finally, a special mention to the White Swan Hotel, who kindly provided the Riders Lunch after the Saturday Ride Out; John Thorburn & Son, D G & C Lucas, the Lothian and Borders Police, The SBC, Redpath Tyres, Andrew Hodge and Ross Poole (Lawnmower Centre) whose support was as always very much appreciated.
