Borders Water Rescue Team is to get £4,645 from Scottish Borders Council’s community grant scheme.

Until recently the group was under the wing of a local sub-aqua group and was known as the Borders Underwater Search Team. As well as changing its name, the rescue team has a become an independent body with charitable status - but the changes have come at a cost.

To help with insurance and one-off re-branding costs (clothing, leaflets and vehicles) they have asked for help from SBC. Councillors agreed to the grant request on condition that the group revises its fundraising plans to bridge any funding gaps in future years.

Borders Water Rescue Team helps search waterways and local rivers for missing persons, provides a presence at common ridings and rescues sick and injured animals.
