Gordon celebrates in style

GORDON Civic Weekend got underway on Friday with a family night when last year's Gala Queen Rebecca Kinghorn crowned the 2010 Gala Queen Cheyenne Yule.

Also taking part were Cheyenne's attendants Beth Redpath and Matthew Neary.

The children and adults were then entertained by a magician and for the rest of the evening there was dancing to music from Magnum Disco.

On Saturday the Open 7s football competition winners were K.S. Electrics and runners-up were Average Joes. This event was kindly sponsored by K.S. Electrics of Duns.

Later on in the day the family sports, sponsored by Rutherford, Shiell and Partners, were held with races for all ages.

The Eva Forsyth Trophy for pre-school was won by Rhea Simpson, runner-up was Chad Patterson.

The Doug Purves Mile Trophy (under 14 years) resulted as follows: 1. Matthew Neary, 2. Lewis Wheeler. results of the Open MileTrophy were: 1 Jack Neary, 2 Jimmy Rendall.

The evening finished with a quiz held in the Bowling Club and the winners were the Gowks Allsorts. Thanks to Neil Kellett for being the quizmaster and for organising this event.

On Sunday Cheyenne, Beth and Matthew attended St Michael's Church for the family service and many thanks to Michael for taking this service.

In the afternoon the fancy dress took place with the judges having to make their choice of winners.

Results were: Sandy Hunter Memorial Trophy (most original) - Confused. com; John Yule Memorial Trophy (most humorous) - Tiger Woods and his Ladies; Nairn Memorial Trophy (best overall) - Alice in Wonderland; Redpath/Mitchell Memorial Trophy (best overall under 16 years) - The Spice Girls; Gordon Civic Week Trophy (best overall pre-school) - Spanish Girl.
