Rev Norman Drummond, Chairman of the Scottish World War 1 Commemorations Panel, visited the school to speak to an assembly. He told how Kirsten’s school visit to the Battlefields of France in May 2013 led her to write a moving tribute to a soldier who died. Senior government organisers of the event were so impressed that she was given the opportunity to read it at the service, broadcast live across the Commonwealth countries that day.

Kirsten plans to keep the brooch safe for future generations. S3 pupils will be visiting the battlefields next May.
