Local entertainer, Gladys Chucklebutty has branched out into the world of farming by supplying Dunbar butcher Peter Whitecross with her own home grown “Blackberry Farm Lamb.”
Gladys took over her father’s farm five years ago when he passed away and although farming is a world away from showbiz, she quickly took up the challenge. Running the farm on her own she also provides livery and stabling for horses with grazing, hay and straw for local farmers and horse owners and grain for customers in the Borders.
So how does she manage the farm on her own and still do her shows all over the UK?
“To start with, it was with great difficulty,” she said. “But thankfully I now have both working together nicely. I love it, though sometimes it’s quite a contrast. From doing a big posh show to hundreds or a couple thousand people, to then come home and plough a field or dip sheep. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
