The Scottish Childminding Association is running a six week induction course for people in the Scottish Borders considering a career as a childminder.
The six week course starts on Wednesday October 23 and runs on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm-9pm at the Langlee CPD Centre in Galashiels.
The course is free and those who complete the sessions will be eligible for start-up grants to help with the initial cost of setting up their business.
Raquel Lloyd-Jones, Childminding development officer for the region said: “People from all walks of life decide to become childminders as it gives them the opportunity to run their own business which suits their family commitments.
“Childminders are professional childcare workers who work from their own homes to provide a service for other people’s children in a family setting. They are required to be registered with the Care Inspectorate and undertake regular inspection.
“Childminding is a demanding but rewarding career which makes a valuable contribution to the community.”
The course covers an introduction to childminding, meeting the needs of children, creating the right environment, raising awareness of child protection and emergency first aid and working in partnership with parents.
