LOVERS of fiddle music are in for a treat next Friday, March 2, when a special fiddle music party is taking place in the recently refurbished Ayton Community Hall.
Appearing on the bill is Shetland Fiddle in the Borders, a group of around 20 fiddlers who just love playing Shetland music.
The group, which meets in Kirk Yetholm on a regular basis, has players from as far afield as Alnwick, Haddington and Selkirk. The repertoire is a good mix of both traditional and modern Shetland tunes, guaranteed to get the feet tapping.
Also on the bill are Eryn Rae and the Grahams.
Eryn Rae is a very talented 11-years-old fiddler from Lanton, near Jedburgh.
She is accompanied by two much older Berwickshire Grahams – Graham Dolan from Ayton and Graham Blanche from Paxton.
A new musical project, Le Hot Club de Berwick, completes the line up.
Playing some of the gypsy jazz music from the days of Stephane Grapelli and Django Reinhardt, Fred Mark and Graham will take listeners back to the 1940s when that style was very much the ‘top of the pops’ of the day.
Unfortunately all the tickets have been sold for the fiddle party. On the off chance that there may be one or two spare, anyone interested should phone 018907 81411.
