Farne Salmon’s £1.2 million expansion

The award-winning smoked salmon and fish processor, Farne Salmon, has invested £1.2 million in a new production facility at its Duns factory.

The firm has created 32 new jobs in the facility, which is producing a range of specially developed ‘Fish in a Flash’ products for the company’s largest client, Tesco.

The facility was officially opened by Michael Moore MP on Monday afternoon.

Mr Moore made a tour of the factory floor, including the new production facility, and unveiled a plaque to commemorate its opening.

Mr Moore commented: “It was great to be able to open the new facility today and see first-hand the expertise and innovation of the team at Farne Salmon.

“It’s fantastic news for the local economy that 32 jobs have been created as a result of this investment which just goes to show how businesses like Farne Salmon are thriving.”

He then met with production managers to try the new ‘Fish in a Flash’ for himself, as well as Farne Salmon’s other lines.

“I want to congratulate everyone at the company for all their hard work in making this happen and which them every success for the future.”

Employing over 600 people, Farne Salmon, part of Labeyrie Fine Foods UK Limited, is the largest private sector employer in the Scottish Borders.

Founded in 1982 the company is committed to growing and developing its business within the Scottish Borders, which includes recruiting from the local workforce.

The company’s Dun’s factory is one of the largest salmon smoking facilities in Europe and in addition to producing smoked salmon, Farne Salmon & Trout also creates a growing range of ‘added value’ products for customers including the new Tesco ‘Fish in a Flash’ range.

The supermarket chain first approached Farne Salmon about working on the new range almost a year ago.

Over the last thirty years Farne Salmon has grown from strength to strength and now employs over 600 people providing valuable income that goes back into the local community.
