Eyemouth residents will get their first glimpse of how the town hall may be developed as the draft plans go on public display this week.
Eyemouth & District Community Trust organised for the plans to be on show at the Auld Merket on Harbour Road on Tuesday (3.30-6.30pm), and are keen to hear people’s comments, suggestions and ideas which will be fed back to the architects.
Among the ideas for the hall redevelopment is creating a hot desk space for people looking for a workspace in the town.
The main thrust of the hall development is to create a centre that can increase skills, opportunities and training for people, increase tourism, encourage social enterprise, offer serviced office accommodation for new and developing businesses and develop Eyemouth as an economically sustainable town.
In October last year the trust was awarded a development grant by BIG Lottery (Investing in Communities January 2016). The pressure is now on as the development team move towards the final stage 2 application for Big Lottery funding as that particular fund closes at the end of August.
Camerons, architects based in Galashiels, have experience in working on Big Lottery projects and having carried out surveys of the hall, the old burgh chambers and the property above, which is in private ownership, they have drawn up the first set of plans for development of the building.
