eyemouth Community Rowing Project has been presented with the £1,800 cheque won for them by the Rotary Club of Eyemouth and District at the Rotary District 1020 Conference in Aviemore in October.

Sixty Rotary clubs initially competed for the community award. This was then narrowed down to ten and by the time of the conference Eyemouth were down to the final three, with the winner being decided by the delegates.

Eyemouth Rotary had previously decided to support Eyemouth Community Rowing Project as their local project for the coming Rotary year.

The decision proved a winner for the town, as their presentation at the conference won them the top spot.

The cheque was presented to the chairman of Eyemouth Community Rowing Project, Johnny Johnston, at a recent meeting. “I am very grateful for the support of Eyemouth Rotary and was overwhelmed when I saw the presentation that had been produced,” said Johnny.

“I particularly wish to thank Mike Jopling and Jo Pawley for all their effort and hard work.

“The money will be used by the Rowing Project to help purchase a trailer to enable us to take the skiff ‘Unity’ to the rowing regattas planned around Scotland in 2011.’’
