Eyemouth lifeboat’s annual fundraising event takes place at the Old Fish Market, Harbour Road, Eyemouth on Saturday, August 29, 2-5pm.
Last year’s event raised money to provide the Eyemouth RNLI crew with person locator beacons and they recently took delivery of them. Donations from local families and collections held at the funerals of loved ones added to the fund meaning they raised the £2,500 needed to buy the PLBs.
The beacons are small enough to be attached to the lifejackets and give extra security to the crew of the lifeboat when operating in challenging conditions. Should they be required, then the PLB can be activated and send a distress message to a satellite, detailing the position and allow search and rescue services to assist as quickly as possible.
At this year’s harbour side event there will also be several activities on the water with the lifeboat giving a demonstration along with members of the Borders Kayaking Club. The local rowing club are offering an opportunity to row a skiff and children can safely try out rubber dinghies in the harbour.
On shore there will be music, face painting, tombola, a second hand book stall, teas and coffees, home baking and a raffle.
