Eyemouth’s Auld Merket at the harbour side now has a new office area available for use by local organisations.
Eyemouth District Community Trust have a five year lease for the former fishmarket in the town’s Harbour Road from Eyemouth Harbour Trust to use for community projects and the addition of a community office space in a modular building inside the fish market will help focus residents’ attention on the area.
This first stage development of the Auld Market (TAM) was funded by the Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund and the trust has been successful in their second bid for further money from the fund, to continue developing the social use of the space.
“EDCT is very grateful to the Scottish Government PCF’s continued support of this project,” said a trust spokesperson.
It means they can start recruiting for a project leader and worker in the next few weeks who will liaise with the community to increase their involvement,
“The space is available to anyone offering training to support the outcomes of the People and Communities Fund: Healthy Living group, Borders Navigator, Businesses Gateway, Social Enterprise Training, etc,” said the trust spokesperson.
“We’ll be having social and fund raising events, markets etc in open space and welcome suggestions from the community.”
