Ethel Atkinson has just celebrated her 100th birthday.
She came to Berwick from Newcastle with her husband Frank in 1938 and first lived at Station Cottages, Tweedmouth before moving to Prior Road, where she raised five children, Frank, Leslie, Brian, Rosamond, and David.
After the children flew the nest, they moved to a bungalow at Highcliffe before Esther finally moved in with their daughter at Foulden. During her time at Highcliffe she helped part time in the Highcliffe Stores. She was a keen member of the Darby and Joan Club, Townswomens Guild, Spittal Hall Ladies and the St Johns indoor bowling club.
She also has 15 grandchildren and 34 greatgrandchildren, many of whom came to her 100th birthday party.
