Scottish Borders Council (SBC) is inviting parents of children due to start school, early learning and childcare to register their child for a place during enrolment week, between November 17 and 21.
Parents of any child born between March 2010 and February 2011 should visit their local catchment school during enrolment week and enrol for primary one.
Parents with children born between March 1, 2011 and February 28, 2013 should visit the early learning and childcare setting of their choice during enrolment week and enrol for both three and four year old early learning and childcare.
Councillor Sandy Aitchison, executive member for education, explained: “When you visit your catchment school or early learning and childcare setting to register your child, the headteacher or the manager will ask you to show a copy of your child’s birth certificate and provide proof of residence in the area. You will then receive details on start dates, uniform requirements and a copy of the handbook.
“The visits also serve as a great opportunity for parents to see their local early years’ facility, meet staff and ask any questions they may have.”
Children do not need to attend school until the August after their fifth birthday. Parents or carers can opt to defer entry to school where the child’s fifth birthday falls between September 1, 2015 and February 28, 2016.
Under new statutory guidance for early learning and childcare, only children who will be five between January 2016 and February 2016 are entitled to a further funded year.
All other children are not entitled to further funded early learning and childcare.
