A SCOTTISH Power engineer had to be rescued after he fell from a telegraph pole he was working on in Gifford on Friday, September 2.
Fire crews were called to assist ambulance crews at Marvingston Farm at approximately 2.40pm following a call reporting a 32-year-old power engineer had fallen from a telegraph pole onto a fence.
The casualty was still trapped and connected to live electrical cables (240v) when firefighters arrived.
A Scottish Power linesman was able to isolate the power and fire crews used airbags to assist with the man’s removal from the fence.
He is thought to have suffered a broken leg.
Commenting on the incident, a spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was a delicate operation to release the engineer who had been working on a telegraph pole when he fell and injured himself.
“The power lines were still live on our arrival but a Scottish Power worker arrived on scene to assist and isolate the power. Fire crews worked to free the injured man and hand him over to ambulance staff who were also in attendance.”
