A Duns woman is celebrating her losses this week, after shedding an astounding 25 pounds and dropping three dress sizes.
In January 2013, Mel Short was dreading another year of feeling overweight and unfit. Knowing she would celebrate her 40th birthday the following January, she knew she wanted to be slimmer and fitter before then.
She had tried to lose weight on her own, but had always put it back on, so she decided to join the Berwick branch of Weight Watchers.
Since joining, Mel has not only lost 25lb, she has dropped three dress sizes - something she says she never thought possible.
Having two dogs, she is a keen walker, and now finds that she can walk further and faster without getting out of breath.
Rebecca Mills, organiser of Berwick Weight Watchers, said: “I’m so proud of Mel. She has been such a huge inspiration to myself and the other members of the Berwick Upon Tweed Weight Watchers meeting. Even if there were weeks when she couldn’t make it to Berwick, she would pop along to my Duns meeting.
“I am sure that a lot of people can associate with Mel and her lifestyle - a busy working mum, with two kids and a husband, house and pets to look after.”
Mel herself said: “I can’t begin to tell you how much better I feel. I loved my Weight Watchers meetings so much that I help at the Berwick meeting now. It is a fantastic group that is so supportive and I think going with a friend really helped me keep going too.
“Losing weight has made such a difference to me.
“Now I challenge all Berwick and Scottish Borders residents to join me and feel fantastic!
“There’s no magic trick or short cut to gaining a healthier, slimmer shape.
“What makes the difference is the motivation and advice I get from Rebecca and the encouragement we give each other in the meeting.”
