Fancy yourself as something of a Deloris Van Cartier - the night club singer turned nun played by Whoopi Goldbert in the film ‘Sister Act’?
Then you could be just what Duns Opera are looking for as they are putting on a stage production of ‘Sister Act’ in spring 2015.
Helen Forsyth, who is leading the production team admitted they were going for something “a bit special” and said: “This style of big, gospel music is a bit of a departure for us so we’ve brought in a singing coach, Sarah Gray, to lead us and it’s already proving very popular.”
So who’s going to take the Whoopi Goldberg role of nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier?
Helen said: “We are on the lookout for somebody with a big personality and a big, big voice who loves to sing gospel and soul.
“We don’t think we’ve found her yet but we know she’s out there and we want to meet her,” said Helen.
Assistant director, Hannah Hay is also encouraging singers to come along, whether they fancy taking a lead role or are more interested in joining the chorus.
“Duns opera is one of the friendliest groups I have worked with,” said Hannah. “There’s everything from young people still in school, right through to those of more mature years and everything in between.
“People walk in the door and are made welcome immediately.”
Singing nights continue at the Southfield Centre on Station Road Duns every Monday at 8pm and singers, both male and female, are encouraged to drop in.
Auditions for the main roles will take place in November and December.
