Move over Jeremy Paxman as fingers will be on buzzers and hearts in mouths at Duns Volunteer Hall on Friday, June 13 when eight quiz teams representing local organisations ranging from Berwickshire High School and the Knoll Hospital to Greenvale AP and Duns Opera battle their wits in an ingenious remix of University Challenge.

The first-ever Duns Community Challenge promises to be closely fought and well-worth watching, with four exciting knockout rounds followed by a dark horse round for the runners-up and a thrilling finale to decide who takes home the winners’ crystal trophy. Entry is free for the audience and there will be a separate quiz sheet for spectators to fill in between rounds, plus a licensed bar serving beer, wine and soft drinks. Doors open at 7pm.

The event is being staged by A Heart for Duns, the local group which is raising funds to turn Duns Volunteer Hall into a first-class community venue.

Jim Cook, Chairman of A Heart for Duns, said, “There are some well kent faces in these eight teams, and it should make for a really entertaining evening.

“ We want as many people as possible to come along and join the audience and support their teams by wearing the team colours and cheering as much as they can.”

Teams taking part include Berwickshire Housing Association (red); Scottish Borders Council Museums (dark green); Duns Rotary (royal blue); Duns Opera & Duns Players (purple & black); The Knoll (pink); Greenvale AP (navy); Berwickshire High School (red & black) and Allsports (orange).
