Duns Senior Citizens Club has been named the member group of the year at the Age Scotland 2016 Awards ceremony held at Perth Concert Hall.
The award, presented by singer-songwriter Eddi Reader, was given to the Duns group in recognition of their efforts to support older people in the area by tackling loneliness and isolation.
Brian Sloan, chief executive of Age Scotland said: “Duns Senior Citizens Club has done amazing work for 50 years by supporting isolated older people and helping them to feel a part of their community.
“What’s even more amazing is that this wonderful group is run by a team of dedicated volunteers who put in a huge amount of effort. I’m delighted we can give this award to mark their tremendous achievements.”
Duns Senior Citizens Club meets once a fortnight on Friday afternoons to enjoy films, talks, and activities such as shopping trips. As well as offering opportunities to socialise, the club enables older people to keep informed on matters of importance to them,
