A new shield for the Lothian Probus Clubs Outdoor Knockout competition was presented at the April meeting of Dunbar Probus with the winner’s name already engraved on it - Dunbar who won it last summer.
The competition, played between East Lothian, West Lothian, Mid Lothian and City of Edinburgh Clubs, has been on-going since 1992 with the exception of 2010 when the organiser John Mackie died after a long illness.
The winners shield was made by Dick Scambles and donated by Murray Robertson, former secretary of Dunbar Probusand and as luck would have it the first winners were Dunbar - and they went on to win it again in 2006 and 2007.
As the shield cannot hold any more winners’ names it has been returned to Dunbar Probus Club who expressed their thanks to Dunbar Bowling Club for generously allowing their green facilities to be used for home games. After the death of John Mackie the continuation and organising of the bowling competition has been undertaken by Andrew Malone who accepted the new shield at Dunbar Probus Club’s April meeting.
