Dunbar Post Office is about to get a facelift and will be closed for two weeks from Monday, February 23, for the work to be carried out.
The new, open-plan, three counter layout will re-open for business on Monday, March 9 at 1pm. And once open, the post office, on Dunbar High Street, will be open extra hours - opening all day on Saturday, instead of closing at 12.30pm as it does now.
Dunbar Post Office will close at 5.30pm on Monday, February 23, for the refurbishment to take place. During this short period of closure Post Office customers can either go to: Haddington Post Office, 50 Court Street, Haddington, EH41 3UU; or East Linton Post Office, 29 High Street, East Linton, EH40 3AA
Kenny Lamont, area manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.”
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the post office, and will secure services for the future. The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The move is part of a major modernisation programme across the post office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.
The Government has committed £2 billion investment for the post office network halt post office closures and to update 8,000 branches, and in November 2013 a further £640 million was added to that investment in the Post Office network, for refurbishment works from 2015 to 2018.
