The ambitious proposals for the former Liberal Club building were revealed in August last year and planning approval was given by Scottish Borders Council in January.

But the man behind the scheme, Manas Sardar, is proving illusive and his earlier boast that students would be enrolling this month, hasn’t materialised.

Local councillor George Turnbull, who had been working with Mr Sardar, told the Hawick News “I’ve not had any joy getting in touch with Manas Sardar. He hasn’t replied to any of my telephone calls or emails or messages I’ve left.

“I’ve had no response whatsoever. It’s extremely concerning and very disappointing.”

Mr Sardar previously said the College would have an international flavour, attracting prospective students from countries including China, Singapore and a main focus on India.

However, SBC confirmed they have had no contact with him since January.

At the time of going to press there was no comment from Mr Sardar.
