Police have charged three young people with drink driving in the Scottish Borders over the weekend.
At around 12.45am, on Sunday, November 6, officers pulled over a blue Vauxhall Corsa for a driving offence in Lantongate in Duns. The 19-year-old female driver was breathalysed and charged with drink driving.
A 17 year old female driver was charged with drink driving in Galashiels in the early hours of the same morning and at around 4.50pm, police breathalsyed and charged a 20 year old man following an accident near Melrose when a black Ford Mondeo collided with a wall.
Inspector John Scott said: “It’s extremely disappointing that three young drivers have been charged with drink driving offences within a 24-hour period.
“Even a small amount of alcohol can impair someone’s ability to drive safely. We take a zero tolerance approach.”
“Our message is simple, if you are found to be breaking the law we will charge you and place you swiftly before the courts.”
As part of the ongoing commitment to tackle drink and drug driving, Police Scotland will continue to monitor the roads network and anyone found to be unfit while behind the wheel will be robustly dealt with.
