Attempted bag snatch in Eyemouth

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted handbag snatch in Eyemouth.

The incident happened around 1.35pm on Tuesday, December 13, in Renton Terrace.

A 58-year-old woman was walking alone when a male approached and tried to grab her bag. The victim refused to let go and the male then ran off up the steps towards Albert Road.

Inquiries are now underway locally to identify the suspect and anyone who can assist officers with this investigation is asked to come forward.

He is described as white, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall with a medium build and wearing dark washed-out nylon tracksuit bottoms, black hooded top with the hood up and two blue stripes across rear of sleeves and onto the back of the top and dirty white trainers Inspector John Scott said: “Fortunately, the woman was not injured, nor did she surrender her belongings. Nevertheless, we are keen to trace the male responsible as soon as possible and anyone who was in Renton Terrace at the time and witnessed the incident should contact police immediately.

“Anyone with any further information relevant to this ongoing inquiry should also get in touch.”
