Councillor demands Scottish government dual A1 in East Lothian

East Lothian Council transport spokesman, Councillor Michael Veitch, has today written to the Scottish transport minister Keith Brown asking what plans the Scottish Government has to upgrade the A1 south of Innerwick.

Councillor Veitch said: “The A1 is the gateway to East Lothian from the south, and while the road is in excellent condition through most of the county, it is regrettable that much of the section from Innerwick to the English border remains un-dualled.

“By improving links for local businesses and tourists alike, I have no doubt that upgrading the un-dualled sections would pay rich dividends in terms of boosting the economy of East Lothian.

“I therefore very much hope that the Scottish Government will be prepared to lay out clear, costed and time-tabled plans to take forward the long overdue up-grading of this key trunk route.”
