To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Coldstream Guards Regiment leaving for France and joining the British Expeditionary Force in August 1914 a special march is taking place in Coldstream.

Organised by the Coldstream Guards Association Coldstream Branch the memorial march of 7th Battalion Coldstream Guards, Coldstream Guards Association members, Coldstream Guards Cadets, and The Scots Guards led by Coldstream Pipe Band will start with a memorial service in Coldstream’s Henderson Park on Saturday, August 9, at 11.30am.

At 12 noon the company will set off from Henderson Park, march along the High Street, down Market Street, along Duke Street and back onto the High Street where the Rt Hon. Marquess of Donegal, president of the Coldstream Branch and an officer from the Regiment, will take the salute at the war memorial.

Coldstreamers were among the first British regiments to arrive in France after Britain declared war on Germany and suffered heavy losses. At the first Battle of Ypres the 1st battalion was virtually annihilated.
