Bank of Scotland seem reluctant to acknowledge on-going problems with the ATM at their Coldstream branch which is now open only two days a week.
MSP John Lamont wrote to the bank earlier this year, Coldstream Community Council has also written to complain about the frequency of the cash machine being out of action, and at the weekend it happened again.
A Facebook comment read: “It’s a bank holiday and that includes the Coldstream Bank of Scotland cash machine. Branches round here on part time hours, customers first!”
Mid Berwickshire councillor John Greenwell said that the bank’s assertion that the ATM was only out of action for two hours 33 minutes in 2014 was incorrect.
“What the bank fails to grasp is the knock on effects. Our store keepers do not have an endless supply of cash available to give out and when they understandably restrict the amount that they give back to the customers this leads to in some cases angry exchanges. Businesses suffer loss of trade as potential customers go off to where ATMs are working and spend their money in other towns.”
A Bank of Scotland spokesperson said: “An engineer was called out to our Coldstream ATM on Saturday but unfortunately was not able to resolve the issue. We can confirm the ATM is now fully operational and apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
