Chirnside is all ready for Kacey’s big day

The flags are flying and preparations have been finalised for the 2014 Chirnside Civic Week celebrations.

On Sunday young Kacey Moffat will be crowned this year’s Gala Queen at a colourful ceremony in Windram Park.

This year’s Court is as follows: Queen’s Consort - Michael MacKinnon; Attendants - Cheyanne Wakelam and Courtney Lamont; Herald - Robert Cummings; Crown-bearer - Aksel Hampson; Fairy Queen - Tess Crilly; Fairy Queen Consort - Connor Lamont; P1 - Ian James and Katy Chalmers; P2 - Harris Benson and Kenzie Halliday; P3 - Charlie Jones and Maisie Crilly; P4 - Lewis Jackson and Natalia Malich; P5 - Micah Chapman and Chantelle Lamont; P6 - Thomas Weeks and Sophie Wood.

The festivities kick off (literally) at 12 noon on Saturday, June 14, with the Five-a-side football at the footbal pitch. Entries will be taken oin the day.

In the evening, starting at 10.30pm , meeting at Windram Park is the popular Torchlight Parade and Fireworks meeting at Windram Park

Sunday is Gala Day! At 11.15am on Sunday morning and traditional Kirkin O’ The Queen will be held at Chirnside Parish Church followed by the ‘Toasting’ at Robin’s Nest at 12.15pm.

The colourful parade through the village starts at 12.45pm and culminates at Windram Park for the Crowning Ceremony at 1.15pm.

The crowning at Windram Park followed by the Party in the Park from 2-6pm. There will be music by ‘Hightide’, funfair, bouncy castle, kids’ petting zoo, various stalls and sidesghows, a hog roast and other attractions.

In the evening the day’s prograame is rounded off by a Karaoke at the Waterloo Inn starting at 7.30pm.

On Monday morning the very popular Baby Show will be held in the Community Centre starting at 10am. At 6.30pm the Ross Robertson Mile will start from the football pitch car park and at 7pm there will its eyes down for the Bingo at the Community Centre.

The tennis finals start at 6.30pm on Tuesday night while Robin’s Nest is the venue for the darts and pool competitions starting at 7.30pm.

A Teddy Bear’s Picnic will be held in the Common Good Park at 11am on Wednesday and the Bowls competition will be held at 6.30pm.

Prepare to be entertained Thursday in Robin’s Nest at 6.30pm as Civic Week brings you ‘Chirnside Has Talent’ (names to Katie 07889 976788 or Carie 07921 514015). A domninoes competition will be held in the Red Lion at 7pm.

The popular Walking Treasure Hunt starts from the football pitch car park at 5.30pm on Friday and this is followed by a Quiz Night in the Community Centre at 8.30pm

On Saturday at 10am there is a Pet show at Windram Park and at 12 noon the Buggy Race starts at football pitch car park and finishes at Windram Park with an obstacle course. From 5-7 there is a Family Disco with kids games at Robin’s Nest (£1 entry) followed by the Gala Dance from 8pm to midnight with music by Revel Rouser (£3 entry).
