Chirnside Civic Week gets underway on Sunday when young Hannah Black will be crowned the 2015 Gala Queen at a ceremony in Windram Park.

Sunday’s festivites start with the Kirkin O’ The Queen in the Parish Church at 11.15am followed by the Toasting at 12.30pm.

The parade then makes its way to Windram Park at 12.45pm with the crowning ceremony being carried out at 1.15pm.

Hannah’s court for her big day is as follows: Consort - Nicholas Warnock; Attendants - Hannah Turner and Poppy Bell; Herald - Luke Riley; Crown-bearer - Kieran McCulloch; Fairy Queen - Isabelle Watson; Fairy Queen’s Consort - Rhys Simpson; P1 - Miley Turner and Israel North; P2 - Thea Maudsley and Harley Jackson; P3 - Sophie Peserra and Noah Sidney; P4 - Millie Warnock and Luke Simpson; P5 - Rebecca Richards and Jack Evans; P6 - Matilda Sidney and Hamish Reynolds.

The judging of the fancy dress competition follows the crowning and then it’s Carnival time in the Park!

The Civic Week committee have once again come up with a full and varied programme of events to suit all ages.

On Monday evening there’s Bingo in Robins Nest at 7pm (over 18s only).

Chirnside Chasers are organising the Ross Robertson Mile race starting at the football pitch at 6.30pm on Tuesday night while the sporting theme continues on Wednesday night at Chirnside Bowling Club with the bowls competition which starts at 6.30pm.

The ever popular Pet Show will be held on Thursday at 6pm in Windram Park followed by the Dog Agility at 7pm.

On Friday afternoon there’s Kids Bingo in the primary school at 12.45pm and in the evening there is an Adult Quiz (teams of four, £10 per team) in the Waterloo Arms at 8pm.

On Saturday it’s fun all the way.

There’s a Family Treasure Hunt starting from the football pitch at 11.30am and in the afternoon the primary school is the venue for a Family Quiz starting at 1.15pm.

The school football pitch is the venue for the Over 40s football match which kicks-off at 2.30pm.

The week’s festivities come to a close on the Saturday night with a Fancy Dress Dance in Robins Nest starting at 7.30pm. Anyone in fancy dress gets a free shot!

This year’s Civic Week colours are lilac and pink and residents are encouraged to decorate their windows.
