ON street parking in Eyemouth has come in for criticism but hopefully things should improve when a new Eyemouth Traffic Regulation Order comes into force, after being given the go ahead by Scottish Borders councillors.
Changes are planned for parking in Church Street, Albert Road, Manse Road, Houndlow Park, School Lane, Coldingham Road and Northburn Road, and improvements at Eyemouth Health Centre access road with a one way restriction coming in to the health centre via School Lane and continuing past the day hospital and out onto Albert Road by the community centre.
Following extensive consultation with locals the council has drawn up a revision to the town’s Traffic Regulation Order, which was last looked at in 2007. Initially the new Order was also to cover off-street parking at Harbour Road, Seafront, and Victoria Road car parks, however they’ve been removed and will be the subject of a separate Order.
On street parking should improve in Eyemouth with the removal of the waiting and loading restrictions, plus the ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction at Church Street to allow unlimited on-street parking.
A similar change is proposed at Albert Road with the removal of the ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction on a stretch of the road in front of St Ebb’s Church. In Manse Road it is proposed to remove the limited waiting time and also install a Blue Badge holders only bay.
At both the School Lane Coldingham Road junctions into Houndlaw Park a ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction will be implemented and the ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction at Northburn Road will be extended.
