Businesses warned of ‘security survey’ con by police

Lothian and Borders Police are urging local businesses to be extra cautious if contacted via telephone by a man claiming to be from the police.

On Thursday, March 22, a local business in the Kelso area was contacted by this male who stated that he was from the police and informed them that he was conducting a security survey.

The male is said to have been well spoken, with a Scottish accent.

However, when pressured for more details, the male terminated the call.

Local police have confirmed that they are not involved with any third party organisation regarding security surveys, and they would discourage any business from passing any details regarding their premises over the phone.

A police spokesperson said: “Alternatively, we would encourage any business being contacted by this male to collect as much detail as possible, including a contact telephone number and thereafter contact police.”

Anyone with any information regarding this incident can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 01450 375051.
