Young shepherds flock to competition

Quixwood Farm, near Duns, will host the region’s keenest young shepherds in the National Sheep Association’s young Shepherd Competition.

Young people who work with sheep, have left school and are under 26 are invited to take part in the contest as part of NSA Scotsheep 2014.

Competitors could be working shepherds, students or simply have an interest in sheep.

“If you have competed before, we would love to see you again and first-time competitors are equally welcome,” says organiser, Dave Turner.

The winner and runner-up will have the honour of representing Scotland in the national finals at the NSA National Sheep event at Malvern, Worcester, which presents the chance to qualify for the World Young Shepherd of the Year competition.

Depending on support, regional qualifying competitions will be held in early May to select twelve contestants to compete in the Scottish final at NSA Scotsheep 2014 which takes place at Quixwood Farm on Wednesday, June 4.

Closing date for entries is Monday, March 31, with forms available from Euan Emslie, NSA Scotsheep 2014 organiser. Phone 01430 441870 or 07718 908523, Alternatively e-mail:
