Pension changes are now in force but before anyone makes a decision about what they do with their pension pot Berwickshire CAB wants them to be sure they know the choices and consequences.
Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB has employed a Pension Wise Guidance Specialist who will work across six Borders offices; Eyemouth, Duns, Kelso, Hawick, Galashiels and Peebles.
The CAB service has been working with the Government to set up Pension Wise to help people with a Defined Contribution pension make the most of the new pensions freedoms and avoid unexpected consequences and pitfalls.
Local people will be able to go along to Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB offices in Duns, Eyemouth, Kelso and Hawick, Central Borders CAB office in Galashiels and Peebles and District CAB office in Peebles to find out about the Pension Wise service. If they are eligible they can be referred to book in for a face to face appointment. People will also be able to access guidance appointments over the phone, and online.
Rhona Calder, manager of Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB said:“Good guidance is a crucial step towards a financially stable retirement.
“Here in the Scottish Borders the three bureaux already support people with many of the issues affecting retirement so we’re pleased to be involved in delivering this important service.
“Our guidance specialist has undertaken training, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Insurers, and is ready to start work in April.
“Our guidance specialist will offer impartial information, tailored to the needs of the individual. Also remember that the info is available at the government website - www.pensionwise.gov.uk
“The Pension Wise guidance will be an ‘additional’ service for the CAB. All of our other advice work will continue as normal. And, as ever, all aspects of our service are free, impartial and confidential.”
