There are just a few weeks left for the greenest businesses in the Borders to gain national recognition for their work.

Now in its 14th year, the government-backed Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland Awards (VIBES) aims to recognise businesses of all sizes and sectors for environmental best practice in their day-to-day activity to cut down on resource use, increase sustainability, improve reputation and benefit the company’s bottom-line.

There will be a total of ten awards this year, including two new categories: the Hydro Nation Award and the Circular Economy Award.

Businesses in the Borders are urged to apply to the free-to-enter awards before the Friday, July 5, deadline to gain much-deserved recognition for sustainable achievements and contributions.

Environment and climate change minister Paul Wheelhouse said: “For over a decade, VIBES has produced winners from across Scotland, from a range of sectors including manufacturing, food and drink, transport, energy, finance and leisure. The VIBES Awards acknowledge the significant steps taken by both small and large businesses on behalf of the environment.

“What makes VIBES stand out from the rest is that winners are automatically entered into the prestigious European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE): a huge accolade.”

VIBES is an accredited awards scheme which feeds into the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE). By winning a VIBES Award, companies are eligible to enter the EBAEs, which attract entries from the cream of Europe’s most environmentally positive businesses.

Paul continues: “It’s not just the big names that scoop top awards – that’s why I
encourage businesses in the Borders to apply.”

Mainetti based in Jedburgh beat off stiff competition to win the Management Award (Large category) in 2012.

Winners for the 2013 awards will be selected from the following categories: Management Award: large company category (more than 250 employees); Management Award: SME (up to 250 employees); Energy Award; Waste and Resources Award; Transport Award; Environmental and Clean Technology Award; Changing Behaviour Award; Hydro Nation Award; Circular Economy Award; Best Micro Business Award.
