NHS Borders A&E performance figures are improving and in the first week of May 95% of people were seen withing four hours.

A&E performance figures across Scotland have improved to 93.5% of patients being seen within the required four hours, but while welcoming the improvements, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that there was still much more work to do.

In the week ending May 3, 463 people attended Borders General Hospital’s accident and emergency department. The busiest day was the Saturday when staff saw 87 people.

Ms Sturgeon said: “The weekly figures are the best we’ve had since we first started publishing them in March, but we still have work to do to reach our targets and make sure that everyone in Scotland gets discharged or admitted within four hours.

“However, the improving figures are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of staff working at the frontline of our health service.”
