Borders MP Michael Moore is encouraging Borderers to give to the Disasters Emergency Appeal for Ebola launched in Scotland.

World Health Organisation (WHO) say more than 4,500 people have died and nearly 10,000 have been infected with ebola since the start of the year. Infection rates in Sierra Leone and Liberia are such that the number of cases doubles every 20 days.

Money raised in this appeal will enable member agencies to scale up their emergency response, focusing on preventing the spread of ebola and the provision of practical support.

Mr Moore said: “I know people here in the Borders have been shocked and moved by the stories and pictures coming out of Africa.

“I urge people to consider giving to this appeal to fund the health teams, clean water and sanitation which the areas affected so desperately need.
