Scottish Borders Council’s Safer Communities Partnership is encouraging Borders’ residents to join in Child Safety Week, June 24-30 and be a Safety Hero.

Mid-Berwickshire Councillor Donald Moffat, Executive Member for Community Safety, welcomed this year’s safety week theme, commenting: “We all have a role at home or out in our communities to be aware of child safety.

“Child Safety Week is an excellent way to remind everyone who interacts with children of all ages to keep them safe, especially from preventable accidents.

“Remember, you don’t have to have superpowers to be a Safety Hero!”

Tips to make your home as safe as possible include: putting medicines and cleaning products in high cupboards; securing windows, stairs, and high chairs to avoid falls causing head injury; regularly testing fire alarms and checking fire escape routes and tightening and tying out of reach blind cords to avoid strangulation.
