Berwickshire Housing Association is a finalist in the 2014 Chartered Institute of Housing Awards, the winner announced at an award ceremony in Edinburgh tomorrow evening (Friday, November 21).
The local housing association already has 15th place in the Sunday Times 2014 Best Not for Profit list and hopes are high that a CIH award can be added to this year’s attainments.
BHA will be competing against Blackwood and The Wheatley Group for the Excellence in Developing Skills and Capacity Award, one of six awards being presented at the gala night.
Their inclusion comes courtesy of their Developing People for Growth programme, rolled out to all employees across the organisation. It has proved hugely successful for BHA and has allowed all employees to look at their strength and weakness and given them a chance to develop and improve these through group workshops and one-to-one sessions with experienced coaches.
BHA employee Julie Shields recently took part in the programme: “I had reservations about going on the course but I’m pleased I did because I enjoyed it and learnt a lot from it,” she said.
“The course showed me my strengths and weaknesses and what I could do to develop more in my job role.”
The opportunity to take part in the programme has given Jacqui Laidlaw the boost she needed to progress in her job: “I really enjoyed the workshops and think it’s great for people like me who are keen to progress within the workplace. I have gained a huge amount from the programme and it has helped boost my confidence and improved my communication skills.”
