Within days of closing Seton Hall care home, Berwick, in November 2015, Berwickshire Housing Association submitted plans to demolish the building.
BHA announced they were looking at closing the home in May 2015.
A spokesperson for the housing association confirmed this week: “As a charity, BHA has a responsibility to manage its assets for the benefit of its tenants.
“As Seton Hall is now empty, we applied for permission to demolish the building on November 23, 2015. This demolition will save the cost of securing the building and provide a wider range of options when deciding the future of the site.
“We secured permission to demolish the building shortly before Christmas. We do not have a timescale for the demolition yet but will advise on this when we are in a position to do so.”
