Last Tuesday, 29 of Berwickshire High School’s S3 pupils visited the Sky Skills Academy in Livingston.
The aim of the programme was to allow pupils a behind the scenes look at how news broadcasts are put together. This was followed by the opportunity to work in four studios, with members of the Sky team to create their own news broadcast on the theme ‘Access to Education’.
Each team was responsible for a different section of the report: introduction, on location report, eye witness report and finally the expert interview.
All four studios are equipped with the latest technology including HD cameras, green screens and touch screen mixing and editing desks.
At the end of the day pupils were able to view their broadcast.
Along with learning about new technology, pupils also developed invaluable transferrable skills such as communication, problem solving and team work.
Pupils agreed it was a brilliant day out and they really enjoyed the whole experience.
