GR8 youth club in Greenlaw have successfully applied for over £6000 from Awards for All which will enable them to run exciting and fun activities for the coming year.
The Club which was started four years ago has grown from strength to strength since Tracy Hay and Fiona Drewery and the youth volunteers (Hannah, Emma, Bea, Karly, Scott, Aaron, Ewan and John) took over running it two years ago and they now have up to 30 kids coming every week.
The GR8+ group for older members (13 years plus) have just completed a major project in the village- renovating the village play park.
They came up with the idea when they walked round the village and identified areas where they could make improvements.
They put their suggestions to the community council, discussed these with Scottish Borders Council and got permission to carry out the work. The group then applied for YouthChex funding for the paint and materials and with the help of the younger kids the painting was done and the finished job looks fantastic.
Fiona commented: “To be able to run a project like this through to completion is a huge achievement. Through their hard work they have transformed the park into to a colourful and vibrant space.”
