The 61st May Weekend, the highlight of the year for the Duns and District Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, took place recently in and around Duns.
The weekend began with a Ball in the Volunteer Hall, with buffet supper followed by a programme of dances. The music was provided by James Coutts and his Band. The following morning, classes taught by visiting teachers were held in Foulden, Reston and Eyemouth. Festivities continued on Saturday evening with a more informal dance in the Volunteer Hall.
After Derek Janes, convenor of A Heart for Duns, welcomed everyone to the Volunteer Hall, he accepted a cheque for £700 from the Branch. The money was raised at a Charity Dance. About 150 dancers had an exhilarating evening as Marian Anderson and her Band played reels, jigs and strathspeys. A ‘Coffee Morning with Entertainment’ was held in Reston Village Hall on Sunday.
Anyone who would like to join the Branch, to ‘Dance Scottish for Friendship, Fitness and Fun’ can obtain details from Rhona (01361 882570) or Pat (01890 818264).
