The maternity and gynaecology department at Borders General came together recently to celebrate 25 years of babies being born at the hospital.

In 1988, Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II opened the BGH and with this began a new era for many of NHS Borders health care services and departments. Maternity and gynaecology department was one of those departments to change and develop in the new surroundings.

A celebration held last month brought together past and present consultants and midwives.

Dr Brian Magowan, NHS Borders consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist said: “Some of the babies born are now grown up and work for NHS Borders and I look forward to seeing second and third generations born at the BGH giving back to our health service.”
